I Hate My Job. Now What 3 Ways to Find a Position Youll Love

I Hate My Job. Now What 3 Ways to Find a Position Youll Love I Hate My Job. Now What 3 Ways to Find a Position Youll Love More than50 percent of Americans are unhappy at work, according to Forbes.Low pay, meaningless duties, and personality conflicts with superiors are just a few of the reasons that contribute to a vastly unsatisfied workforce. If youre one of the millions who have said I hate my job and want to do something about it, read onfor tips and resources thatcan help you find a new position youll love.1. Identify the keywords you need to succeedWhether youre looking to change careers or simply find a different job in your field, a great resume is an absolute must. This crucial document is the best way to convey how youll help your next employer achieve their goals- and its how youll make your first impression. However, its not enough to have a polished, professional resume. Because the typical job posted online receives hundreds of applications, most employers use applicant t racking systems (ATS) in order to manage the hiring process. An ATS is set up to weed out candidates who dont measure up- or candidates who dont include the correct resumekeywords. If your resume highlights your experience with customer relationship management (CRM) software, and the job posting specifies knowledge of Salesforce as a requirement, your resume could get overlooked if you dont mention Salesforce by name.Jobscan identifies the crucial keywords you need in your resume.Take some time to consider what you hate most about your job- and why. Do you enjoy your tasks, but hate the situation? Would you prefer a nimble startup to a large, staid corporation? Come up with a list, and then search for positions that are more appealing to you.Once you have identified some jobs youd like to apply for, use Jobscans resume analysis tool to see how your resume stacks up to each one. The better your resume is targeted for each individual job, the better your chances of getting past an ATS . Keywords can vary even for very similar jobs, so dont assume that a one-size-fits-all resume will get you noticed. Jobscan willidentify the most important keywords in a job posting and tell you which ones youre missing and which ones you should emphasize to better match your resume to the job.2. Determine what your resume is missingKeywords are, well, key to an effective resume- but they arent the only thing you need. Consider the followingMeasurable accomplishments.Anyone can list off duties they performed at a previous job. What prospective employers really want to see is what you achieved in each position on your resume. They want to know how youll be able to help them achieve their goals. Streamlining processes to save money, reducing time spent on projects, and increasing profits are all examples of howyou can showcase your positive impacts. And remember to quantify your accomplishments whenever possible.Consistently exceeded sales quotas wont get the same response as Exceede d sales quotas for 6 consecutive quarters. Measure and demonstrate your impact.Education and training. For some roles, it doesnt matter what your degree is in- or whether you have a degree at all.For others, you wont even be considered if you didnt major in the right field, or earn the necessary licenses, or pass specific exams. If you find that the majority of new positions youre drawn to want education or credentials beyond what you have, perhaps its time to go back to school. If your education is your strongest selling point, you can lead off your resume with your education section. If your graduation is well in the rearview mirror, you can list it at the end.Hard skills vs. soft skills.Hard skills refer to programs and processes you have experience with, such as Six Sigma training or Joomla. While soft skills(motivated or organized, for example) are important, employers primarily need to know that you have the base qualifications for a specific position. Companies do often conside r cultural fit when hiring, but the majority of your resume improvementefforts should go toward incorporating hard skills- because anyone can list any soft skill on their resume, these subjective traits are given far less weight by employers.3. Seek out targetedcareer adviceCareer advice that may be perfect for a social media manager wont necessarily do a mechanical engineer any good. And if part of the reason you hate your job is because you no longer want to be in that field, youll not only need career advice targeted toward your new field, but overall advice on how to change careers. For brainstorming and research help, Jobscan has compiled a collection of resume keywords for specific career industries. Check out the list below of and learn about what words youll likely see in your searchAccountingBiomedical EngineeringCivil EngineeringCustomer ServiceSoftware EngineersFinanceMechanical EngineeringNon-Profit ManagementPhotographyRegistered NursesSalesSocial Media ProfessionalsSoft ware EngineeringAlso, consider turning to an expert for advice. A career coach could help you work through why you hate your job, and what you need to look for- and avoid- for your next one. Jobscan partnerLisa Quastis a former Fortune 500 executive turned professional career coach. Whether you read her best-selling book or sign up for one-to-one coaching sessions, shescertain tohelp you through your transition.Finding a new job or changing careers might be hard, but dreading going to work each morning is hard on the soul. The more you know about the kind of job you want, including how to present yourself as a great candidate, the sooner you can eliminate the phrase I hate my job from your vocabulary

12 Ways to Make Sure Your Resume Gets Seen

12 Ways to Make Sure Your Resume Gets Seen 12 Ways to Make Sure Your Resume Gets Seen Moreover, the deck is stacked against your resume. The average company receives 75 resumes for each of its open positions, according to CareerBuilder, and the average recruiterspends no more than six secondslooking at a resume before they decide to pass on it or move forward with the candidate. This is to say bedrngnishing of the dreaded applicant tracking system, which uses its semi-accurate-at-best filter system todisqualify 75 percent of the candidatesforany given position. As a job binnenseeker, then, you have a lot of competition, very little time to make a good impression, and at least one ficklegatekeeper standing in your resumes way.The good news, however, is that all hope is not lost. There are a few things 12, in fact that you can do to boost your resumes chances of being seen by an employer. These tips come from Art Koff, the founder ofRetiredBrains.com.1. Did You List Your Cellphone Numb er for Contact?Recruiters and employers arent going to bother with candidates whom they cannot contact. If your phone number is missing, expect your resume to head straight into the waste basket.Koff suggests a cellphone number in particular because its often easier to reach someone via cellphone than it is to reach them via landline. Dont make an employer work just to track you downAlso, Koff notes that job seekers should make sure there is a professional voicemail message on their cellphones. A jokey answer message could send employers running in the opposite direction.2.Did You Make Sure Your Email Address Is Appropriate for Business?Hokey and fun email addresses can cut you out of the interviewing process, says Koff.Employers wont look kindly on unprofessional email addresses. What does an email address like Partymonster27 say about you as a partie? Nothing very good, thats for sure.3. Are You Using Cliches in Your Job Summaries?MostATSs use keyword systems to filter candidates from the running. If your resume uses generic keywords like results-oriented, self-motivated, or dynamic, theres a good chance that a companys ATS will disqualify you, according to Koff.Better to use specific words from the job description or posting to which you are applying, Koff says.4. Were You Self-Employed? If So, Were You Specific About What You Did?When it comes to self-employment, employers really want to see concrete, detailed descriptions of the projects youve done. Koff suggests going a step further and also including the names of some of your highest-profile clients with their permission, of course.5. How Much Information Did You Include About Jobs You Had Very Early In Your Career?Anything other than the names of companies and the dates you worked there is overkill, says Koff and you may not even need that information at all. Unless a very early job is particularly relevant to the job you are applying for, Koff suggests you keep it simple or cut it altogether.6. Did Y ou Include Your Familiarity With Specialized Equipment?Do you know a lot about certain operating systems, technologies, tools, softwares, etc.? Then be sure to mention that clearly7. Did You Include Any Volunteer Work or Charitable Activities?Employers like to see volunteer work on your resume. As Kara Montermoso of Idealist.orgtells Monster,Volunteer work, whether in addition to a current job or an activity in between jobs, shows an employer that you are willing to try new experiences and are involved in your community, and it generally demonstrates a willingness to take initiative and make things happen.8. Did You List the Specific Core Competencies of Your Job Function and Industry? As mentioned above, ATSs dont like generic keywords. No, these softwares and the employers that use them want to see specific, highly relevant language that directly relates to the job and industry. At the same time, Koff notes, job seekers need to be very careful about how they phrase these core comp etencies.Dont include words like responsible for or duties included, Koff says. Instead, use language like managed or oversaw.Recruiters and hiring managers react better to this terminology.9. Did You Minimize Descriptions of Tasks and Maximize Descriptions of Accomplishments? This is what employers and recruiters are really interested not the daily dutiesof your job, but the overarching and lasting positive impacts you had in your role.10. Did You Quantify Your Accomplishments?Dont just describe your accomplishments in vague terms. Use dollars and percentages to quantify your achievements.Use numbers whenever possible, Koff says. If you can support this information with charts and graphs, do so.11. Did You Create a Text-Only Version of Your Resume?Your resume is going to end up in a lot of weird programs, and fancy formatting will often get destroyed in the process. This can lead to unreadable resumes, which employers wont hesitate to toss. Therefore, Koff suggests that you always k eep a text-only version of your resume on hand. This will preserve the formatting when uploading into a company text box, Koff explains. Word documents dont formatproperly when placed in a text box.12. Did You Include a Cover Letter?Yourtitel letter may never get read, but including one shows an employer that you put time and effort into your application.Plus, in case the cover letterdoesget read, you can use it to your advantage.Your cover letter can serve to better relate your experience to the job to which you are applying, Koff explains.Your resume has to clear a lot of hurdles before it gets read, but if you follow these 12 tips each time you send out a resume, youll give yourself a much better shot at getting seen.Master the art of closing deals and making placements. The Minimum And Maximum Ages For Military Pilots

The Minimum And Maximum Ages For Military PilotsThe Minimum And Maximum Ages For Military PilotsUnited States Military pilots are selected and trained to be some of the best pilots in the world. Each of the services has different age requirements to become a pilot or navigator. Becoming a military pilot is a highly competitive process and requires a candidate to be at the top of his/her game both physically andmentally.Achieving high standards on any entrance exam tests such as the Aviation Selection Test Battery, Physical Fitness Tests (PFT), as well as Officer Aptitude Rating, and even the ASVAB. Navy and Marine Corps To become a Naval or Marine Corps Aviator, you must be between the ages of 19 and 26 at the time you enter flight training. Adjustments (waivers) can be made up to 24 months for those with prior service, and up to 48 months for those already in the military at the time of application. To become a Naval/USMC aviator, you will have to reisepass the Aviation Selectio n Test Battery (ASTB). It consists of five timed subsets mathematics and verbal, mechanical comprehension, aviation and nautical, spatial perception, and a survey gauging interest in aviation. About 10,000 candidates sit for the exam each year. The Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB) is used by the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard to select candidates for pilot and flight officer training programs. Air Force Must meet a selection board before age 28 1/2. Must enter Undergraduate Flying Training (UPT) before age 30. Age waivers up to the age of 35 are considered. To qualify as an air force pilot, you will need at least a bachelors degree, earned at either a civilian college or university or the Air Force Academy, located outside Colorado Springs, CO. The Air Force uses the Air Force Officer Qualifying Aptitude Test (AFOQT). Similar to the ASVAB, this Air Force Test consists of 12 sub-tests to include Verbal analogies, math, science, reading, table reading, and of course aviation information. The Air Force prefers science, math, and engineering degrees, such as aerospace engineering, physics, computer science, and chemistry. You will also need to have a high college grade point average, generally 3.4 or above, to be competitive. Candidates with civilian flight training, such as a private pilots license, also tend to fare better with the selection board than those with no flying experience. Army(Rotary Wing) -All NEW Aviators Fly Helicopters Must not have reached the 33rd birthday as of the date of the convening board. Waivers for those who are 33 or 34 years of age at the time of the board may be considered, provided the applicant is otherwise exceptionally highly qualified. (Note this means the applicant has a bachelors degree, a high college GPA, flight training, or very high scores on the Army Flight Aptitude Exam. However, you can also join the Aviation Community of the Army right out of high school if you qualify for the ArmyWarrant Office r Flight Training Program. The Warrant Officer Pilot program allows for young men and women without college degrees to become pilots. If you dont have a bachelors degree, the Army will test you using the ASVAB, college entrance exams like the SAT, or ACT to assess your qualifications for Officer Candidate School (OCS). The Army does have several fixed-wing aircraft in its inventory, but these are limited to seasoned and experienced aviators. Secondly, the Army is unique because Warrant Officer Flight Training (WOFT) contains a program casually called street-to-seat or high-school-to-flight-school. If selected, you sign a contract. If not selected, you have no obligation to the Army and are still a civilian. The WOFT Application Process works to eliminate those without the motivation to follow through as it is more difficult than it appears. Coast Guard The Coast Guard does not accept pilot applications unless the part has already been a military pilot in a different service. The Coast Guard currently uses the ASTB score to select pilot candidates for training on Coast Guard planes and helicopters. To apply, one must be over 21 and under 32 years of age, must have at least 500 hours as a rated military pilot, and must have full-time flying experience within two years of the application. To join the Coast Guard as an officer, you must qualify on portions of the ASVAB and the SAT and ACT college entry tests.
